We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land in which this podcast is recorded - the Darkinjung people. We pay our respects to the Elders (past, present and emerging) and to the wisdom, knowledge holders and the storytellers of the ancestors of these lands who have cared for and lived spiritually as one for many generations with our environment. We all share together in harmony through our connections as children of Mother Earth in the spirit of peace love and happiness.
My name is Clay and welcome to 'Yarn About You', an audio podcast where I get to chat with people I know and love, as well as others I just want to meet, to find out their story.
As I have gotten older, I have become fascinated with delving into how people have turned into who they are today. What gives them strength? What challenges have they dealt with? What has influenced them most? Where did they come from?
I look forward to releasing new episodes of yarns in the future, bringing you stories from people from all walks of life.
I hope you enjoy our yarns...
When the pandemic hit in 2020 I found myself in a terrifying situation where I had to completely reset my life.
I am not unique in any way, we all had to stop, which forced us all to think about what is important to us.
That old saying "Do something you love and you never have work a day in your life" has been prominent in my life for many years. I took the opportunity to reflect and work to build a life that was good for my heart - not my wallet. I used this time to pursue things I love and have always wanted to do. I launched my own business. I wrote a short film. I began to paint. I became more involved in the community.
I ended up volunteering on three different community committees - all in creative roles where I found I could make a difference. The passion, talent and first class work that people in volunteer positions put in is extremely commendable and I have found that the ease of teamwork and achieving common goals are heightened because the people involved 'want' to be there - they don't have to be there to earn a wage. They also create strong bonds and seem to be more supportive of each other, patient and understanding. They take the time to sit, chat and get to know each other. I know more about people I have been on a committee with for 6 months than people I worked with for 6 years!
Meeting such amazing people and taking the time to sit and listen to their stories really made me realise how extraordinary so many people in my life are, and I am encouraged to find a way to get people's stories out there. I aim to offer quality audio interviews to celebrate people and hear their story!
I hope you find this podcast and our yarns as interesting as I do!
